“I’m so glad I live in a world where there are Octobers” said Anne, in the book Anne of Green Gables by LM Montgomery.
That phrase has been resounding around my head all month as I’ve been wooed, wowed and dazzled by autumn’s swan song.
Yellows, reds, browns and marmalade orange. Azure skies. Fruit falling in abundance.
The liquid gold of late afternoon light. Mist hovering over the great River Ouse in St Ives, Cambridgeshire (see first photo).
All of these sights are fleeting, temporary, often ethereal but lingering long in the memory.
I am SO glad I live in a world of Octobers. Aren’t you?
